Fit with Dog - 5 Exercises for Walking

Would you like to add variety to your daily walks with your dog? Do you want to do some exercise yourself, but don't have enough time? Then use your next walk as a fitness session.

Sina (Instagram: @aussie_selfie ) has put together 5 fitness exercises for you and your four-legged friend.

Let's go!

your equipment

The following equipment is sufficient for the joint training session:

  • A dog leash
  • sports clothes
  • sports shoes
  • Your four-legged friend's favorite toy (for example a ball)

Exercise 1: Jogging on a leash

Jog at a relaxed pace with your dog on a leash to your favorite meadow. A brisk walking pace is also fine.

A good opportunity to work on leash walking.

Exercise 2: Squats and seat

At every intersection or fork in the road, your dog should carry out a command, e.g. sit. While doing this, do five squats .

Make sure that your feet are about hip-width apart and that your knees stay in line with your toes as you lower your buttocks. Push your knees outwards and raise your arms so that your upper body stays upright and your back nice and straight.

Exercise 3: Jumping jacks, jumps and ball retrieval

Now it's time to use the toy! For example, you throw the ball and then do the next exercise until your dog brings it back to you. Vary between jumping jacks and knee lifts on the spot.

If your dog has lost interest in playing, try the following: spread treats on the floor. As long as your dog is looking for them, you are training!

Exercise 4: Push-ups, planks and high-fives

As an alternative to push-ups, you can do push-ups on your knees or hold the push-up position (“plank”). Make sure that your wrist is under your shoulder and that you keep your elbows close to your body as you lower yourself to the floor.

While you complete a set (for example, 5 repetitions or holding a plank for 15-30 seconds), your dog should follow a command. For example, he can give you his paws in turn (“high five”).

Exercise 5: Bench Dip and Command

At each park bench, do a tricep push-up (bench dip). For each push-up, give your dog a new command (sit, lie down, etc.).

What are you waiting for? Put on your sneakers and let's go. Have fun trying it out!
